Google's first wordmark appeared in 1998 in a serif typeface, and the four-colour scheme has been a constant ever since. The current logo arrived in September 2015, when the in-house design team retired the old serif Catull face and switched to Product Sans, a custom geometric sans-serif built for the brand. The redesign kept the familiar blue, red, yellow and green sequence but made the wordmark cleaner and more legible on small screens, and it was introduced alongside the standalone four-colour 'G' mark.
